Casa de Paz is Spanish for House of Peace or Tranquility. Nestling on the hillside of MonteJucar, with amazing views eastwards towards the small towns of Alberique and Alzira, the Casa de Paz glows warmly in the setting sun to welcome you on your first evening in this little spot of paradise.

The house has recently been fully renovated and equipped with top-quality fitments. There are three bedrooms, one double en suite, another double and a twin, with the family bathroom located just off the inner hall. The enormous L-shaped lounge and dining room are comfortably furnished and complimented by patio doors to two sides, both leading onto the wide balcony which surrounds the eastern and southern sides of the house. This gives the living area a bright and airy feel, even on the hottest summer day. The newly-fitted kitchen has two fridge/freezers, a washing machine and a state-of-the-art ceramic hob and oven, with a window overlooking the front garden.

Set in its own private grounds, amongst a development of privately-owned houses of similar quality, the Casa de Paz is neither isolated nor overlooked – the best of both worlds. It has off-road parking for three or four cars, with a few steps leading to an extensive gravel and tarmac games or play area. There is a brick built barbecue and of course, a large pool with a paved terrace again facing the spectacular view. The size of the plot and an abundance of mature trees means that there is always somewhere suitable for sun-worshippers to top up their tans while English roses can find a shady spot to read or snooze.

For essential supplies (wine, beer or fruit juice) there are a couple of supermarkets in the nearby village of Gavarda, and an excellent baker and patisserie. For a more extensive range of fresh produce, a ten-minute drive just across the main road into Alberique is well worth while. The coastal resorts of Cullera, Gandia and Benidorm are around 30 to 75 minutes away, and the interesting old fortified town of Xativa, where festivals and concerts are regularly held, is just a few kilometers along the road towards Alicante.

One recent visitor listed her three best things about her holiday at Casa de Paz: firstly, the cooling mountain breezes which make the midday temperature bearable even in August; secondly, no lager louts; and thirdly and perhaps most astonishingly, no mosquitoes! No doubt other visitors would come up with a different selection of plus-points. So pour a glass of your favorite tipple, select your rocking chair on the balcony and let the peace of the Casa de Paz soothe your soul as the sun sets, the cicadas begin their evening chorus and the twinkling lights of Alberique herald the arrival of Gertie the Gecko at her moth-catching post.

Casa de Paz is a family home
